Speaker:
Peter Harrell, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for International Economics and Competitiveness at the NSC

ALI hosted a wide-ranging discussion with Peter Harrell, starting with the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the resulting sanctions on geopolitics and the global economy. Participants noted that the crisis is turbo-charging cooperation among democratic allies and how important the role of digital platforms has been in this context. Mr. Harrell discussed the Biden-Harris Plan to Revitalize American Manufacturing and Secure Supply Chains, discussing both their efforts to onshore production of key products, as well as work with allies to coordinate supply chains.  ALI members also raised questions about the potential for the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and whether or not tariffs will be part of the framework; global food security in the face of the Russia crisis; and US policy on China.
