ALI Conversation with Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR): The 2021 Trade Agenda
/ALI hosted a conversation with Earl Blumenauer, Chair of the House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee to discuss his committee's agenda for 2021. The discussion explored the expiration of Trade Adjustment Assistance, and the opportunity for a broader package of adjustment assistance for displaced workers and the expiration of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and new negotiating objectives that could be included in a new TPA. The conversation discussed the importance of language governing labor and environmental rights in trade, including the precedential nature of the USMCA labor language and how to make sure Mexico's commitments are implemented by its government, and new opportunities for including language on sustainability in trade agreements.
