Bipartisan Working Breakfast on AI Leadership and Governance

ALI recently launched a series of bipartisan conversations on our issues. The first was on AI and centered on the report from the Bipartisan House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence. We are planning additional bipartisan sessions in the course of the upcoming year.

ALI hosted a breakfast discussion with Rep. Jay Obernolte (R-CA 23rd), together with numerous other experts, to discuss “Bipartisan AI Leadership and Governance.” Participants were supportive of the bipartisan House AI Task Force report with 85 recommendations and pointed to the wide areas of bipartisan agreement. They discussed the U.S. approach on sectoral regulation of AI use case outcomes, over the heavy-handed approach of regulating the AI tools themselves. Finally, several participants reiterated the importance of U.S. leadership internationally and the need to work with allies to promote the healthy development of AI and necessary guardrails to prevent harm and regulatory fragmentation globally and in the U.S.
